JOB DESCRIPTION

                                                                             

TITLE:  Career & Technical and STEM Health and Medical Science Position          

 

Job Description:  You will prepare students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course as it relates to health sciences. You will design engaging lessons that inspire students to continue their education in health-related occupations. You will teach and train students to become Certified Nursing Assistants in a partnership with Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community (VMRC).  You will support the sponsor of HOSA, an active after-school chapter of the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) and chaperone students attending competitions and conventions.  A portion of your courses will be within the HHS Governor’s STEM Academy. As a part of the STEM Academy faculty, you will be expected to work collaboratively with other members to form integrated and experiential programs for our students. Additional duties may be assigned by your principal, team leader, or central office staff.    

           

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an approved program of study for the preparation of health care professionals.
  2. Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Health and Medical Sciences.
  3. Holds a current, unrestricted Virginia license as a registered nurse or a multistate licensure privilege.
  4. Has two years of experience as a registered nurse within the previous five years and at least one year of experience in the provision of long-term care facility services. Such experience may include, but not limited to, employment in a nurses aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care setting.
  5. Willing to take and pass one of the VDOE-approved industry credentials listed for Health and Medical Sciences. 
  6. Experience and knowledge in appropriate technical fields related to instruction including computers with experience in Microsoft Office, email and other applications.
  7. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse students, staff, parents, and the public. 
  10. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns.  Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff, co-workers and community agencies.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Prepare students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course.  The potential classes for the school year include: Intro to Healthcare, Medical Terminology, STEM Intro. to Healthcare, STEM Medical Terminology, and Nurse Aide I. 
  2. Design engaging lessons that inspire students to do their best work.
  3. Collaborate, develop, and implement the Nurse Aide I curriculum in partnership with VMRC that supports and prepares students to pass the CNA certification examination.
  4. Support students outside of normal school hours in clinical experiences at VMRC
  5. Provide a safe and positive environment focused on student learning.
  6. Perform administrative responsibilities including managing equipment used for instruction, keeping records of student competencies, assigning grades, and participating in school and district collaborative teams.
  7. Comply with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
  8. Maintain appropriate state licensure and/or national level; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth).
  9. Respond to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
  10. Demonstrate good attendance and punctuality.
  11. Attend all required meetings.
  12. Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  13. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.  Respect the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  14. Comply with and supports school division policies, regulations, and procedures.
  15. Collaborate with the Governor’s STEM Academy faculty in the integration of instruction.
  16. Work with the Career and Technical Education Coordinator and Governor’s STEM Academy Director(s) in developing additional medical internship opportunities for HCPS students.

EVALUATION:       Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative personnel.
