PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides direct support of the principal and the educational program of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess or qualify for the Virginia Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in High School Administration and Supervision.
- Has a minimum of five years of successful high/middle school teaching experience.
- Proficiency in the use of a variety of office machines including computers with experience using Microsoft Office, email and information system applications
- Proficiency in business English; spelling, grammar and spoken language.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and citizens.
- Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain good working relationships with students, families and co-workers.
REPORTS TO: Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the principal in the overall administration and instructional supervision of the school.
- Supervises and evaluate the performance of each member of the instructional staff using school board criteria/policies.
- Serves as principal in his/her absence.
- Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the instructional curriculum of the school and the division.
- Assists in maintaining a positive school climate and appropriate student behavior in the school.
- Coordinates the in-school gifted program.
- Assists with coordination of the volunteer program for the school with the assistance of the parent coordinators and the staff.
- Assists with the supervision of the special education services/programs in the school.
- Assists with coordination of the staff development program for the school.
- Responsible for summer school coordination and planning.
- Actively participates as a member of the Instructional Council.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
- Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
- Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT: Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members and parents is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of administrative personnel.
