POSITION SUMMARY: 

Develops and implements an instructional program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possesses or qualifies for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.
  2. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation.
  4. Experience working with diverse learning needs and with children that may benefit from alternative learning models is preferred.
  5. Familiarity with racial equity and inclusion frameworks.
  6. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, staff, co-workers and community agencies. Possesses or qualify for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with PreK-6 or PreK-3 endorsement (Endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education preferred).
  7. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation.
  9. Proficiency in public speaking and written communication to express and/or exchange ideas. 
  10. Proficiency in the use of a variety of instructional technology including computers with experience in Microsoft Office, email and other applications.  
  11. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns.  Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff, co-workers and community agencies.

  1. Establishes and implements daily written lesson plans.
  2. Evaluates student learning and revises instruction accordingly.
  3. Structures teaching to encourage independent thinking by students.
  4. Effectively prepares/uses instructional materials and technology resources.
  5. Maintains appropriate expectations for all students.
  6. Differentiates instruction.
  7. Maintains appropriate student classroom behavior.
  8. Demonstrates knowledge of the subject/grade.
  9. Demonstrates resourcefulness and flexibility.
  10. Displays enthusiasm for teaching.
  11. Utilizes strategies to meet class objectives, student needs and abilities.
  12. Effectively motivates students.
  13. Manages Instructional time wisely.
  14. Provides an appropriate learning environment.
  15. Models acceptable written and oral expressions
  16. Effectively communicates with students, parents and the community.
  17. Provides appropriate feedback to students
  18. Uses measures of student learning to improve instruction.
  19. Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions, including non-discriminatory and cultural inclusion practices by respecting the worth, dignity and individual beliefs of others.
  20. Participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development.
  21. Works in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers, staff, parents and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population.
  22. Provides services to the profession, the school division and/or the community. 
  23. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
  24. Submits required reports on time and meets other deadlines.
  25. Maintains accurate records.
  26. Follows proper channels of communication.
  27. Appropriately maintains confidentiality.
  28. Is familiar with and abides by School Board policies, regulations and school procedures.
  29. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  30. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  31. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  32. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
  33. Attends all required meetings.
  34. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Instructional Supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and community members.  Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  Regular contact with staff members is required.  Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
