PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Provide students with counseling, group counseling and crisis intervention for social and personal concerns to facilitate a return to academic focus. Assist students in understanding their abilities, aptitudes, and interests in light of the opportunities and demands they experience presently or may experience in the future.

 

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Possess or eligible for a Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in School Guidance. 
  2. Have successful experience working with high school students. 
  3. Possess excellent computer and word processing skills. 
  4. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain good working relationships with students, families, staff, co-workers and community agencies.

REPORTS TO: Principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Provide a 60% ratio of student time, to include individual counseling, group work and consultation with parents. 
  2. Assist students in course selection, in accordance with available data, to enable them to utilize their abilities more fully as thy move toward more realistic goals in education, employment, and life. 
  3. Provide course selection and orientation for new students. 
  4. Establish and maintain a cumulative record of each student. Establish and maintain a confidential record of special needs students. 
  5. Assist in administering the required state testing programs, tests for counseling purposes, and specialized testing programs. 
  6. Consult with teachers, parents, community resource personnel, and administrators to coordinate services for students. 
  7. Consult with teachers and other personnel regarding academic and personal concerns of individual students. 
  8. Coordinate progression from elementary to high school to insure a smooth student transition. 
  9. Promote effective public relations through participation in community activities. 
  10. Assist in evaluating the scope and effectiveness of counseling services. 
  11. Keep updated with professional development through conferences, in services and classes. 
  12. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Maintains licensure at the state; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  14.  Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. 
  15. Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.

 

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

SALARY SCALE:   Teacher Salary Scale

EVALUATION:      Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.Revised
