TITLE: Advanced Learning and STEM Specialist – Elementary

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:   Functions as an integral member of the school staff.  Provides

leadership in curriculum and instructional matters related to gifted and Integrative Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (I-STEM) Education. This educator will provide direct and indirect services to gifted learners as well as coordinate school based I-STEM.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Possesses or qualify for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned. Must be eligible to acquire appropriate add-on endorsement in Gifted Education within 18 months of employment.

 

  1. Has at least three years of successful full-time classroom teaching experience.

 

  1. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the learning process.

 

  1. Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and skills related to scientifically-based research and its implementation.

 

  1. Proficiency in public speaking and written communication to express and/or exchange ideas.

 

  1. Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the community.

 

  1. Emotionally mature, objective and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff, co-workers and community agencies.

 

REPORTS TO:   Advanced Learning Supervisor and STEM Coordinator

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Participates in weekly meetings with assigned collaboration teachers in targeted content areas.
  1. Models differentiated instructional techniques in content classrooms through

           demonstration lessons, co-teaching, small group instruction, etc.

  1. Provides resources for teachers to support differentiated instruction across content  

           areas.

  1. Maintains current data collection on services delivered.
  2. Consults with other teachers at principal’s request.
  3. Meeting with individual gifted students as needed.
  4.     Coordinate and manage I-STEM units within the school.
  5. Participate in quarterly meetings with Advanced Learning and STEM Supervisor and

           other Advanced Learning and STEM specialists.

  1. Attends conferences and classes as requested by Advanced Learning and STEM 

           Supervisors, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and/or Principal.

  1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,

           materials, and facilities.

  1. Conducts yearly division-wide screening and testing for gifted eligibility.
  2. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in

          staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and

          skills up-to-date.

  1. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a

           professional, polite and responsive manner.

  1. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
  2. Attends all required meetings.
  3. Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  4. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.  Respects the worth, dignity and

           individual differences of others.

  1. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned by the Advanced Learning Supervisor, STEM

           Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent and/or the Principal.

 

           PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

  1. Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
  1. Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  2. Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required.
  3. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 200 day contract

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SALARY SCALE: Teacher Salary Scale

 

EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
