TITLE: Elementary Project Learning/ISTEAM Teacher
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide instruction and leadership in the ongoing development of Elementary Project-Based Learning and Integrative Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (ISTEAM) Education.
- Possesses or qualifies for a Virginia Collegiate Professional license with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the components of Project Based Learning and I-STEAM Education.
- Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies that foster students’ skills in creativity, design thinking, collaboration, communication and problem solving.
- Demonstrates knowledge of innovative technology practices and the ability to develop computer science concepts across grade levels.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for the teaching and learning process.
- Demonstrates proficiency in public speaking and written communication to express and/or exchange ideas.
- Demonstrates maturity, objectivity and empathy. Able to handle responsibility, work independently and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches key knowledge, understanding and success skills utilizing the essential project design elements of high quality Project Based Learning/ISTEAM.
- Collaborates with teaching teams to support ongoing project design and completion.
- Utilizes instructional techniques and strategies that foster risk-taking, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and innovation.
- Effectively supports students’ acquisition of communication skills, including writing, speaking and listening.
- Develops resources and knowledge in order to support the growth of Project Based Learning and ISTEAM instruction across grade levels.
- Participates in professional growth opportunities to develop knowledge and skills and/or as requested by the building principal.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
- Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required.
- Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and meet the physical demands.
