PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Assists the Director of School Nutrition with school level program implementation and technical assistance. Provides backup for clerical and technical work in the school nutrition office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of state and federal school nutrition program regulations.
- Experience working in or managing school cafeterias.
- General knowledge of clerical/accounting terminology, methods, and procedures as well as standard office procedures and practices.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
- Skill in the use of computers, computer applications, and other office technology.
- Ability to work effectively with others.REPORTS TO: Executive Director of School Nutrition
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists director with the day-to-day management of the School Nutrition Program.
- Provides leadership and training in the areas of cashiering, food production and service, daily deposits, inventory control, food safety, customer service, compliance with regulations, and provision of nutrition education at the school level.
- Assists director with training new cafeteria managers.
- Completes annual accountability reviews for school meals and afterschool snack programs.
- Acts as school manager in absence of regular cafeteria manager. May be required to work in school cafeterias when substitutes are not available.
- Assists cafeteria managers with day-to-day troubleshooting of issues that may occur.
- Monitors documentation at the school level including, but not limited to, production records, daily claim forms, sales journals, and HACCP forms.
- Handles administrative duties and office matters in the absence of director.
- Submits food and USDA food orders in the absence of director.
- Attends educational and in-service training as requested by director. Assists director with preparation for staff trainings.
- Provides input during product evaluation and menu development.
- Assists with processing free and reduced price meal applications during the weeks prior to school opening and as needed throughout the school year.
- Assists director with planning, implementation, and monitoring of summer meals program.
- Assists director with program marketing and community outreach efforts.
- Assists director in preparing for and conducting nutrition education activities.
- Updates nutrition information binder annually and as needed.
- Performs nutrient analysis of cycle menus.
- Revises standardized recipe book and distributes new recipes to cafeteria managers as needed.
- Maintains record of continuing education for school nutrition program staff.
- Provides backup to school nutrition program administrative assistant including, but not limited to, answering phones, replying to parent requests, and filing documents.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
- Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
- Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or couch.
- Infrequent exposure to cleaning chemicals.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 250 day contract, 7.5 hrs per day (July 1st – June 30th)
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
SALARY SCALE: Classified III

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
