PRIMARY FUNCTION:    Performs all necessary duties in order to maintain a clean and safe learning/working environment for students and staff.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. 
  2. General knowledge of custodial operating procedures, practices and instructions and ability to perform simple maintenance repairs. 
  3. Ability to establish and follow work procedures with speed and accuracy. 
  4. Have a working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment. 
  5. Proficiency in the use of a variety of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies. 
  6. Aware of fire, health, and safety factors and precautions. 
  7. Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students and co-workers.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal / Head Custodian

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  1. Maintains all areas of the building and grounds as required for proper care and cleanliness. 
  2. Operates all necessary power equipment required for proper care and cleanliness of the building and grounds. 
  3. Maintains the custodial supply room. 
  4. Maintains an inventory for all custodial supplies and equipment. 
  5. Operates heating, lighting, ventilation and electrical controls as specified. 
  6. Operates fire safety systems. 
  7. Inspects buildings and equipment and report deficiencies. 
  8. Ensures weekend/evening/holiday coverage and building lock-up. Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  9. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  10. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
  11. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
  12. Attends all required meetings.
  13. Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  14. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  15. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Head Custodian. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Moderate work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds frequently.
  • Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and meet the physical demands.
