JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Instructional Coach – Secondary (Literacy, Math, ESL)-Federally Funded Position


FUNDING STATUS: This contract is based on federal identification of ATSI, if the school were to exit the federal status of ATSI, the contract would need to be revisited and revised.


PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide school-wide instructional leadership by positively impacting student achievement and professional learning through coaching and demonstrating best instructional practice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a Virginia Collegiate Professional license; preferred – hold or eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional license.
2. Has at least five years of successful full-time classroom teaching experience.
3. Demonstrated ability to transfer scientifically-based research instructional strategies and practices into classroom instruction.
4. Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects.
5. Working knowledge of secondary SOL content.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of instruction and curriculum development, current theory, instructional practices and various assessment strategies.
7. Ability to effectively communicate with teachers to improve instructional practices.
8. Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students and teachers based on their changing needs.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
10. Strong, demonstrated belief in teacher efficacy and the power of continuous learning.
11. Knowledge and experience using a variety of assessment tools and analyzing student data in order to support teachers to make effective instructional decisions.
12. Ability to model instructional strategies, including differentiation techniques, across content areas and grade levels.
13. Ability to maintain collaborative relationships, which are supportive of both teachers and administrators with student learning as the focus.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Instructional Coach Coordinator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Effectively uses a coaching model to assist in the continuous improvement of instruction.
2. Supports teachers in the implementation of school and division-level initiatives and programs.
3. Collaborates with the principal to determine what instructional support is needed to achieve the goals of the school mission and improvement plan.
4. Works with administrators and teachers to interpret student achievement data and determine related instructional needs.
5. Supports teachers’ growth through planning, modeling lessons in classrooms, accessing resources, collecting data, observing, and providing feedback.
6. Works with the Principal to plan and provide staff development based on the school’s instructional needs.
7. Attends all trainings and professional development sessions for instructional coaches.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
2. Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
3. Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
4. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
5. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
6. Attends all required meetings.
7. Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
8. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
8. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or the K-12 Coordinator of Literacy Instruction.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
2. Stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch.
3. Regular contact with staff members and administrators is required.
4. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary Services Contract $25 per hour `
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of licensed personnel.
