TITLE: CAFETERIA MONITOR
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Ensures the health, safety, and welfare of students in elementary school cafeterias
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with elementary school age children, school staff, and parents.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of School Nutrition
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises students in the cafeteria during lunch periods in serving lines, while eating, and during dismissal.
- Maintains discipline in the cafeteria according to school policy.
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate staff member as soon as possible.
- Assists in clean up of spills/accidents.
- Adheres to proper hand washing and hygiene practices.
- Cleans and sanitizes lunch tables after each use.
- Assists students with opening of milk cartons, condiments, etc. as needed.
- Encourages students to try new foods and periodically provides nutrition education to students.
- Assists students with proper disposal of food and beverages (may include collection of compostable foods when applicable).
- Refills condiments, silverware, and water coolers as needed.
- Cooperates with other employees, school staff, and students.
- Attends educational and in-service programs and meetings as requested by the Director of School Nutrition and Building Principal.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 day hourly contract (hours vary by school location)
EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
